Your roller blinds may require some cleaning overtime as they go through everyday wear and tear. This could leave them dirty, dusty or mouldy. You may be wondering what’s the best to clean your blinds without damaging the material. See below for the best way to clean your roller blinds.

The Best Way to Clean Roller Blinds

1. Determine what fabric is on your roller blinds. Blockout blinds will have a PVC backing on them where as our lightfilter and sunfilter fabrics have a more woven feel and are thinner than Blockout blinds.

1. If you have Blockout roller blinds, wipe them down with warm, soapy water. Be sure to use a clean microfiber cloth and mild dish soap. We have also found Curtain Magic detergents work well for mould or stains. When you’re done wiping your roller shades, leave them lowered to air dry.

1. If you have lightfilter or sunfilter roller blinds, they should only be dusted – do not clean them with water. Use the brush attachment of your vacuum and sweep across the fabric while you support the shades from the back. This prevents the fabric from being crumpled and sucked into the hose. If you do not have a brush attachment for your vacuum, you can cover your vacuum hose with a sock or pantyhose.

Firstly, we recommend removing dust from your faux blinds by wiping your slats clean with a feather duster. This is something you should do regularly to prevent dust settling on the slats. To remove dirt or stains from your faux blinds, dip your microfiber cloth in warm, soapy water and scrub the slats.

The Best Way to Clean Aluminium Blinds

1. To remove dust, tilt your aluminium blinds all the way up and gently wipe the across the slats with a soft microfiber cloth. Tilt your blinds all the way down and do the same to clean both sides.

1. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment for further cleaning. Tilt the slats all the way up first and support your aluminum blinds from the back with your hand to prevent crinkling. Repeat with the slats turned all the way down.
